My Journey in the Beauty Industry

Since the age of 8, I have been passionate about hair braiding, spending hours practicing on my sister at times until my hands bled. Braiding all my friends hair into every style Snoop Dogg had and reinventing every set of corn rows Alicia Keys had brought out, I could braid with my eyes closed! This early fascination quickly led into nails with me cutting up plastic bottle lids and super gluing them to my fingernails and coating them in 50+ layers of nail polish so they wouldn't break. Then a family friend treated me to having acrylics and my whole world changed! I was obsessed! This led me to become a nail model for a Polytech in Dunedin at just 11 years old. My journey took a significant turn when I started my first salon, trading hair braiding and dreadlocks for goods like meat, fish, and gardening work trade offs. This unique system allowed me to connect with my community in Taranaki, where I set up my salon at my kitchen table. Although I faced challenges along the way my dedication to learning more about beauty and creativity has only strengthened over the years. 4 years ago my salon was a small desk and a stool in my kitchen after my children and husband pushed me to take the leap of faith and start taking clients again. Hours turned to days, turned to weeks with nothing! No clients just me and my daughters continuosly practicing and then it happened! Our first paying client, who turned into 2 paying clients, to 5 to 10 to fully booked out consecutive days which  expanded my desk and stool Into my entire lounge and then having us relocating back to Rotorua with our first upgrade of a single garage into a bustling salon offering multiple services. Now we open our new salon space with integrated services from independent beauty contractors embracing our vision and working alongside our team. Today, I continue to embrace my passion and share it with others, proving that with hard work and resilience, dreams can come true.
